Stories, People and Photos - The City of Cape Canaveral, Florida

I took this photo on my bike ride after the afternoon showers rumbled through Cape Canaveral. That's the replica Space Shuttle pictured with the A1A on the left. The city doesn't have the same name recognition as Cocoa Beach but essentially, they are one big beach community along with Port Canaveral. All have upscale condos and homes mixed in with the old concrete block 6 and 8 plexes. The residents are diverse with surfer dudes and construction workers living along side affluent business owners and retirees. Everyone shares and loves the beach and most tolerate "tourist season" with the added traffic and wingnut drivers. Life is just better on the beach!

Cape Canaveral

Canaveral is a Spanish word meaning "plantation of cane". The Spaniards named it that because the native Americans were growing sugar cane there when they arrived.
