Florida Trivia:

Venice is known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World. Collecting prehistoric shark teeth has been a favorite pastime of visitors and residents of the Venice area for years. Back in the seventies, I made them into necklaces and sold them on the beach for gas money. They were a little smaller than the one pictured below :-)

Miami installed the first bank automated teller machine especially for rollerbladers. (cool idea)

Miami Beach pharmacist Benjamin Green invented the first suntan cream in 1944. He accomplished this development by cooking cocoa butter in a granite coffee pot on his wife’s stove. (I should get my wife to try that)

May 20, 1970 Florida lawmakers passed and sent to the Governor a bill adopting the moonstone as the official state gem. Ironically, the moonstone is not found naturally in Florida…nor was it found on the moon.

Dr. John Gorrie of Apalachicola invented mechanical refrigeration in 1851. -- Aaah - Cold beer at last!

Neil Smith and his brother of Montverde developed the first Snapper riding lawn mower.

This is a 5" fossilized Megaladon tooth. They have been extinct for about 10 million years.

Wasn't it developed to aid the Florida Gators college football team? Hence the name.

I believe named after the Florida Alligator. Invented by one of the Florida State Universities. I think FSU. The sports drink sales may still  produce royalties for the University.

I have been to Venice Beach with my family and rented sifters to search for shark  teeth. We found several and had a great time searching.

Dr. Robert Cade invented Gatorade it was a project he was working on and turned out to be a multimillion success It was amazing. Then after the Gators beat Georgia Tech 27-12 then they said they lost because, "We didn't have Gatorade ... that made the difference." Thank you for the facts but did you know the information I gave you?

Thank you,

Kim White
