A surf board paint job.

Aurora Borealis.  Weird or possibly a sunspot.  If it is a sunspot, I feel bad for the photographer.

It looks like waves that have been recolored, or that are being hit by the sun, at an angle that's changing the color.

Really close-up cupcake frosting??

Posted by Shoshana Shay (St. Pete Realty) about 10 years ago

Hi John. I'd go with breaking surf as well, slow shutter speed. Maybe the graininess indicates a long telephoto shot into an intense sunset reflection? Just a guess.

Hi John, Is it a photo of anything or just gradient paint in a photo editing software?  Would make an attractive background jpg!!

I think it is the surf too. Hey, who is Kevin that keeps guessing everything?

I will guess "the desert"--When will you post the answer?

Sand?

I'm with waves that have been recolored orange.  it is a beautiful picture whatever it is.

Sand storm? Desert? Beach?

John, I am going with the clouds at sunset.  It is a beautiful photo!

I think it's a cropped close up of Al and Peggy's sunrise photo from the other day.

Bob Foster's guess looks on the mark to me...a golden sunset over surf.

Well there's no fooling you guys. It is a long telephoto shot of Saturday's Cape Canaveral sunset on the Banana River. I thought it looked a bit like a desert sand storm but I liked Shoshana's guess of "really close-up cupcake frosting". Below is what the sky really looked like. Thank you all for being good sports and guessing!

Wow. This is beautiful!

I would have gone with a desert sand dune. It's really interesting how differently we perceive things when we change our perspective.

Still it is certainly a great shot

sometimes a close up photo is very deceiving

Hey, John. I guess I cheated, I saw the other post first and it gave this one away. Thanks, Jim

John, I was going to guess a dust storm on Mars. Nice photo!

John - well darn, you posted the answer before I could provide my guess, which was a bit more esoteric and way off from the correct answer.

Posted by Mike Saunders (Lanier Partners) about 10 years ago

John -I love the colors on this photo.  Thanks for sharing it here!  I was a little late to get a chance to guess.

Sorry guys!! I thought you were all done guessing. I love the comments and I'll take longer to reveal the answer next time.

So Mike - Just what was your guess? I'm curious.

It looks like waves. Oh, okay, the sunset close up of clouds. Good one.
