Wordless Wednesday: National Night Out from Crime in Cape Canaveral

The idea behind National Night Out is simple: People in the participating communities know crime happens, and they’re doing their part to put an end to it. When the program started in 1984, just 400 communities took part in National Night Out.

This year on Aug 3, 2010, tens of millions of Americans were expected to take part in various events, from street parties to simply turning on a porch light and sitting outside for a few hours. It's a chance to meet and get to know your local cops and firefighters in a festive setting. A free BBQ was held in my area.

This is one of the bad a_s Brevard Sheriff's airboats on display. How would you like that thing bearing down on you in your rowboat while fishing in the swamp? I'd say you'd better not be poaching :-)

Citizen's Observer Program and Cape Canaveral Firefighters. The fellow in the white shirt drives by my place on a regular basis just keeping an eye on things. What can I say about Firefighters? They're all HEROS!!

Hi John, excellent program, and great photos, I was unaware.

I remember hearing about it when I was getting my Master's degree, but that was about it. There was nothing in the paper this morning that I remember seeing.

That boat looks like it could fly.  It would be great fun to get a ride.

John, those airboats are a blast, it has been a long time since I rode on one, but ehey are fun!  Great program, thanks for sharing it with us!  I don't know if any of our local cities participated this, year, it went unadvertised if they did.

Dan - Every little bit helps.

Jim - I guess it all depends on the community. It's a worthwhile event.

Tim - It does fly and you'd better be wearing earmuffs!

Tony and Darcy - Airboats can be a lot of fun and there are many places to go for a ride around here. Some cities may not participate due to budget constraints. Ours was a pretty low key affair and I can't imagine it costing very much but at least it happened.

I agree they are heroes.  Great program and love the picture of the boat!

Debra - There was a modest turnout but not what I would have expected. The boat is a mean machine!
