John Mayer's Real Estate Blog: The "Thunder on Cocoa Beach" Super Boat Races. Lots of Power and Speed!

The "Thunder on Cocoa Beach" Super Boat Races. Lots of Power and Speed!

The "Thunder on Cocoa Beach" Super Boat races were held today, 8/22/10 and as promised, there was a lot of noise and speed. They started racing at 11:00 am but for some reason, they cut the 1:00 pm main event  from the scheduled 1 1/2 hours to half an hour.  By the time I got my chair and umbrella set up, I only had time for some long distance shots and the race was over. I was going to stabilize my camera and go for some telephotos but it was too late. Click Here to see my previous post that shows what the boats look like close up.

Super Boat Races

All sizes of spectator boats were anchored just outside the buoy line to watch.

Super Boat Races

The boats raced only 150 yards from the beach and surfers swam out pretty close to get a good view.

People packed the beach to watch the free show.

Barbara - It's a nice, exciting way to spend time on the beach with the family on a Sunday. The power is awesome!

Randy - We are fortunate not be be affected by the Gulf spill here on Florida's East Coast. The beaches are great!

WOW!! What an event John! Looks like it was a fantastic day, too bad they cut off the races early!

William - Thanks for checking back. I wish I could have gotten a few close ups, though.

Al and Peggy - We were kind of mystified about the early ending at first but I guess the racers need to keep safe. Next year, I'll have to get there earlier!

Love powerboats with big engines...  Those throttle jockeys are pretty good to keep those things on the edge without blowing them up when the catch a little air.

Nothing like a good power boat to enjoy the weekend.  That definitely looked like a good time was happening.

Lane - It takes a lot of skill, stamina and know how.

Morgan - We had to wait 15 minutes to find a parking space. It was packed!

Diane - I love Cocoa Beach!

David - Thanks for the video!

Myrl - From what I see, you are living life just fine! They have already scheduled the races again for May 2011. It should be another fun time.

Two races that I'm desperately wanting to see with my new handy dandy Canon 550D are the thunderboat races and the Red Bull air races.

Russel - Don't forget to post lots of photos and videos when it happens.
