John Mayer's Real Estate Blog: Wordless Wednesday (On Tuesday) - Showy Hibiscus are Blooming Again in Florida

Wordless Wednesday (On Tuesday) - Showy Hibiscus are Blooming Again in Florida

I just bought a one year old Nikon D 90 digital SLR for a great price and had to experiment with the flowers in my yard. This hibiscus has buds all over it and soon will be loaded with showy bursts of color. I'll post more when I start to master the camera and believe me, there is a lot to learn :-) My brother Larry has the same model so I have a built in tutor. This shot was taken on a tripod in Aperture mode using  F 5.3, low ISO, shutter speed 1/200 sec.

Susan - You are too kind but I know I can get more from this camera with a little more patience and knowledge.

John - That posey is just plain gorgeous!  And it's an unusually pretty color!  You're coming along nicely with the D90.

Hi Myrl - It's a learning curve but I'll get there. Any tips and advice? My brother just ordered the new D 7000.

John - You chose a fantastic camera.  I have the same model as well.

Tony and Darcy - Thanks!

Marc - Actually, the camera chose me. When I went to get a haircut, I was told about a recent widow who was selling her husband's equipment. Let's just say the price was one I couldn't refuse.

John - You're asking the wrong person for advice.  I have a stack of manuals and books on the D90, which I have vowed to break open and read, when the first rains arrive.  Thus far, I've been throwing spaghetti on the wall to see how much I can get to stick.  I'm learning a little through my shoe souls.  We are in good company however.  Debi Boucher and William Johnson both have D90s, and they are putting out good work.  So watch their blogs come up in either the Photos or ActiveRain PhotoBlogger group!  Also, Lee Jinks is an expert photographer.  He generally posts to those groups, and to the Photography group.  He has a D5000 I think.

There is one book I purchased that is easily digestible and helps get you quickly up to speed.  It is "Nikon D90 for Dummies."  I got it through Walmart on-line for about $12.99.  It was worth every cent.
