Sometimes good people get rewarded for good deeds. Extreme Makeover is building a home for the Hurston Family only 20 minutes from where I live in Cape Canaveral. We have some pretty good neighbors here!
Joe Hurston runs the nonprofit organization “Air Mobile Disaster Relief Ministries”. He has made about 20 trips to earthquake-ravaged Haiti to deliver around 660 portable water purifiers and delivered purifiers to 38 other countries.
His wife Cindy, and three children, who still live at home; teenager Juliet, who was adopted from Haiti when she was small, Peter 12 and 4-year-old Dieunika, whom they adopted from Haiti when she needed surgery to treat a birth defect have traveled with him.
Jake Luhn, the CEO of Life Style Homes, which "Extreme Makeover" chose to oversee the build, said anywhere from 3,000 to 4,000 volunteers will assist in the construction of a net-zero energy home. It will feature a 9.6 kilowatt photovoltaic solar panel array and result in no energy bills. They are going to see their new home for the first time on Friday, Jan. 14th. What a deserving family!

Wow how cool is that? Another well deserving family and that's amazing that it is so close to you. My son and I were just watching the show the other day and discussing how fast the houses go up. He said it is virtually impossible for a house to go up in a week because of the time it takes to mud the drywall and let it dry, etc.
You will have to fill me in as inquiring minds want to know.
Hi Jenny - I don't know about the drywall but I'll try to find out. These folks deserve to be supported and I'm glad they were chosen to get a new home.
Hi John- how exciting that you have it so near your home. And to answer your question, it can be done! My husband built houses in Houston and as part of a challenge (he worked for a large builder there ) he built a house from start to finish in 7 days. It had to pass inspections as well. Now, is this done typically... no. They used quick drying sheet rock mud and heaters to dry it.
Kathy - Thanks for answering the drywall question. It's truly amazing what can be accomplished in 7 days.
