The 2nd Annual Thunder on Cocoa Beach Superboat Races were held on Sunday May 22, 2011 and I was there with my Nikon D90 to snap a few photos. My previous post showed the boats on dry land at Port Canaveral but these babies were meant to roar and spray their way through the ocean waves. It takes two people to drive a Super Powered Boat - one on the wheel and one on the throttle. The vibration is vision blurring.
WH Motorsports catches air while roaring around the turn marker.
Miss Geico on her way to winning the race.
Sun seeking spectators take in the show.
One sleek looking Superboat!
A young family walks along the beach. Oops - bottles on the beach are a no no! Canned beer is OK :-)
Getting ready to race. Because I used a telephoto lens, these swimmers appear to be closer than they really are.
Ice cream and cold water anyone?
