More Jobs and Launches coming to Cape Canaveral in the Post Shuttle Era

Jobs are a hot topic here in my area on Florida's Space Coast and today we received some good news. Click on the links to read more.

From Florida Today Newspaper:

State vows $7M expansion boost for SpaceX in Brevard. Pledge aims to fuel Cape expansion, launch frequency and employment. The company currently has 20 launches from the Cape under contract, including 13 from NASA.

Deal that may bring 600 jobs to KSC could get OK soon. Transfer would let commercial company move into former shuttle hangar, Cabana says.

John,

Excellent! Your area could use the relief with the elimination of the shuttle program.

Hi John - It is good news that Florida is getting more space flight related jobs and companies quickly.  The workforce is highly skilled.

Florida doesn't want the situation that occurred in Canada in the 1950's when the federal government cancelled the Arrow military jet development program and the technical staff dispersed everywhere.

Rich - The shuttle job losses were significant and hard hitting. Every bit of good news helps.

Marc - I remember the Arrow well. Many of the shuttle workers will just retire with benefits but too many others will leave this area for greener pastures. It's a shame but government funding has been cut way back.

Barbara - We need all the jobs we can get! It will be hard to make up for the employment lost with the end of the shuttle program.

John - sounds like some good news out of the bad news of shutting down the shuttle program. Hope this puts, not only a dent in the over 20,000 lost jobs but ends up with 1000's more jobs gained.

Sussie - The fat cats just don't get it. I hope they do before the dwindling middle class gets to them.
