911 Reflections: Sunset Clouds over the Banana River in Cape Canaveral, Florida

I walked down to the Banana River Lagoon at sundown on 9/11/11 and tried to make sense of why tragedies like the WTC happen. The obvious answer is that the human race has not yet evolved to the point of eliminating violence and murder. Will we ever get there? I asked the clouds because the sun disappeared not wanting to answer.

They said that even the sun must yield to rain clouds but it always shines through again in the end. Without the rain, there would be no life to be nourished by the sun. Your job, simply put, is to refrain from blowing up the planet before the human race evolves in a million years or so. Can you handle that?

Memorials are wherever you find them....Even in a Bronze and Blue Lagoon. Never forget the victims and heroes of 911!

John - Your thoughts on violence are similar to my own.  Sometimes I almost think the evolution of civilization is moving backward instead of forward.  Things seem so crazy in present day.  Today, I wondered about the dolphins and why it is they are the only species that evolved to land and then returned back to the sea.  Was it a steady food supply, or was it safer there among the sharks, than on land with humans.

I am an avid swimmer.  And today while swimming, I realized that I am more comfortable in water, far more than I am on land.  I think there are fewer sharks (especially in the pool), than currently dwell on dry land.

Your top photo is a real stunner.  I always enjoy your pictures of the wonderful place you live and work.  You are a very fortunate soul!

William - Clouds lit up by Mother Nature have a way to capture your imagination.

Hi Myrl - That's a good question about dolphins. Do you think they have lawyers and politicians? Maybe they are the smarter ones! I think everyone is sick of listening to lying politicians, partisan agendas and lobbyists. It's time to reign in out of control corporations and look after the middle class. While we're at it, let's bring the troops home and leave the middle east to the Arabs. I'm sure they will find a way to get along without us just like they have for thousands of years. (The predator drones can stay :-)

That should be in a book somewhere. You should spread it on Face Book or something.l
