I had a favorite spot in the Canadian forest where I wrote this poem years ago. I hope you enjoy it.
My chair in the forest is a rock.
My footstool is a log.
Nothing moves but the gentle breeze.
The eyes of every hunted creature are upon me
But I only sense their presence
As they silently move away.
Today I am not a hunter.
The Ruffed Grouse can fly freely
In the cedar trees and pines
Solitude is all I want.
The deer can run and
Tattletale Blue Jays can be silent.
Yellow rays begin to break
Through heavy mist and
Banish the chill from my heart.
There is no room in my mind
For anything but the smell
Of wood and water.
A tear is hardly noticed
Falling to the ground
Joining the drops of dew.
Beating wings softly land
On the leaves in front of me
And our startled eyes meet.
We make no sound.
We do not move.

John,
I miss the tranquility of just sitting and doing nothing next to a bubbling brook, in a nice forest setting. Thoughtful poem.

Beautiful poem and the photo would make a nice post card. Thanks for sharing.
That's a really wonderful picture, with perfect words to accompany. I'm very fond of forests - except for that one time I saw a baby squirrel slowly moving at the base of a tree. When I reached down to pick it up in my gloves, a huge snake grabbed it before my fingers could touch it. . .Scared the bejeebers outta me:-)
John, Good read...I enjoyed it and it makes me want to go for a walk in the forest! Thanks for sharing!
John - I want to CONGRATULATE you on having this blog, with special photo and words FEATURED in the Photos group!
John, I love the silence of the forest and I love when it captured. Lovely! Thank you for creative work. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much everyone for all of your kind words. I am going through a difficult time in my life right now but hopefully, that too shall pass. All the best in 2012.
Beautiful colors you cought in this photograph! Best of luck to you in 2012!
John, this should be published it is that good! You make us want to find a forest (well maybe in the spring) and sit just as you described. Hoping all will be better for you soon, don't lose the faith that it will pass.
John I can just imagine myself in the same spot with the exact same thought - the difference is that I couldn't commit it to paper as beautifully as you
Thank you Lennar!
Al and Peggy - The spring always brings new life. Visit the forest in trilliun season :-)
Karen - The forest is a beautiful place to reflect and clarify your thoughts.
Hi John,
This is a beautiful spot and I can see how inspirational this area could make you. It looks very quiet and John, I really like your poem. Thanks for sharing with us.
Not only do we get a great picture, but a post that makes you think along with it. Good stuff! :)
Absolutely beautiful photo! I love all of the wonderful colors. Sadly, we really only get warm and hot here in Texas, so that means we don't get a ton of the wonderful fall colors.
Thanks Kristen - The forest is a wonderful place for reflection.
Chris - It was written during a time of personal anguish.
Carissa - We don't get them here in Florida either but I remember the colors from my life in Canada.
Hello John, that was a very thoughtful and beautiful poem mirroring your photo...hope life eases up on you and again soon all will be right with the world.
John - I just stopped by your blog to see what you were up to. Haven't seen you in the blogosphere lately. I hope everything is fine!
