Thunder on Cocoa Beach, Florida: Super Boat Grand Prix, 5/20/2012

The third annual Super Boat Grand Prix was held in Cocoa Beach, Fl, on Sunday May 20, 2012. Thousands of spectators lined the beaches for the free show but many opted for the complete VIP pass for around $100. It was party time from Thursday on and the racers were accessible for meet and greets. The boats were on display before the big race for photo ops and live bands were everywhere. It was a great event with lots of Florida Sunshine! Most of these still photos were captured from my Panasonic HD-TM90 video camera. I am editing all of the video now and will post it on AR soon.

These folks had the right idea! They didn't have to walk too far to get another beer or iced tea :-)

It was a nice couple of days.  Can't believe the speed these boats travel at these days. Not your grandpa's Boston Whaler! Oh....and really nice pics, John.

Thanks Gary - They're fast alright and LOUD! Even my clients took time off from house hunting to watch the races on the beach.

Going fast on the water with all the waves is not my idea of fun! Glad you are having fun, though.

Than - Speed can give you an adrenaline rush but you have to know what you are doing or face the consequences. I have been on a Sea Doo going 70 MPH on calm water and there is nothing like it!

John, Those are some really cool shots!  I love the super power boats!  I am looking forward to the video!

Tony - The video will be awesome! It really captures the power and essence of the race. It will take a few days to edit though. Stay tuned!

John - Your boat shots scream!  You can feel the movement just by looking at them.  But the deputy sheriff on the beach has a gravy job.  I wonder how many previous lives you need to spend being good, before you get a job like that:-)

Hi John, Those boats rock and they are so much bigger than I would've guessed. Just fantastic!

Thanks Myrl - I think the cops get hazzard pay for doing this job. You never know when the bikins will distract you and cause an accident....or have a heart attack! :-)

Hi William - It really is "Thunder on the Beach". The noise, speed and crowd surround you.
