My friend Kimberly is back in Wrangell, Alaska now with the Coast Guard and took these wonderfull photos of the 4th of July week long party they have up there. The temp was in the 70's! She said they take the weekend to recover :-) I kind of embellished a coulpe of photos :-)

Neat pictures to capture the spirit of Alaska. My sister lived in Alaska for many years, including the 1960s, when they had the devastating earthquake up there. She told me that during the quake, they stood in the back doorway, looking out toward the back part of their land. A moose became so angry that a tree was moving he was standing near, that he kept head butting it! Apparently, Moose aren't the most mild mannered of beasts.
John, Those are some great photos! The embellishments are nice too! Have a great Saturday!
Myrl - Moose can be very dangerous when agitated. That's why Canadians (and Alaskans) carry guns in the woods. It's best to move away but if you can't........
Thanks Tony and Darcy - I'll be throwing horseshoes at 2pm Sat. Have a great weekend!
Hi John,
Alaska is my favorite all-time place to go visit and planning another trip there in a year but this time in a Jeep Cherokee instead of on buses, ships and planes. I think the pictures are fabulous and very festive for the 4th. Love the biker parade! I agree with Myrl's statement about Moose. Everything I read and have been told while up there is that Moose are more dangerous than bears and can take down a bear so are usually not bothered. Same with wolves, unless a huge pack because the moose usually wins. They look so sweet just hanging around or loping down the street so casually.
John,
Visiting Alaska has always been on my bucket list. One of the few States I never made it to when I travelled a lot for business.

Hi Kristin - That's why everyone carries guns in Alaska. It can be a matter of survival. I hope you have fun on your planned trip and take lots of photos. I came accross a small wolf pack while hunting in Ontario, Canada years ago but I had my trusty double barelled 12 gauge shotgun which I reloaded with deer shot. I guess they didn't sense any fear from me and passed by without incident.
Go for it Rich! There might not be many bikinis but I'm sure there's lots of bear rugs, fireplaces and good wine.
