Same Prescription: Canada $52.99 - USA over $900.00 at Publix Pharmacy in Cocoa Beach... And we wonder why more of the middle class can't afford to jump into the housing market unless they are on a drug plan (which is usually co-pay) or totally healthy. My friend opted for the generic at $52.99 from NorthWestPharmacy.com. Maybe $100.00 I could understand but $900.00?? I guess that's why there are so many luxury yachts in Miami. It all relates to drugs in one way or another. Where's my Milk Thistle and CoQ10 supplements?

I've heard about some headed across the border to get their prescriptions before...I can see why, really incredible!
Pete - This defines greed at it's worst!
Hi John, I have heard so much about this. The drug companies subsidize the drugs there by charging more in the US. If Congress really wanted to do something useful, this would be a good place to start.
William - I couldn't agree more. It's almost like Americans are forced to buy at the company store like indentured servants of the rich. Congress is a joke controlled by lobbyists and the top 1 % who are widening the gap between the rich and hard working people every day.
John, I had two daughters on acne medication and the monthly prescription for 30 pills was anywhere from $650 to $875 for ONE prescription. Fortunately at Walgreen's if I bought the family plan prescription card for $36 for one year the prescription "only" cost $585 for the prescription x 2!!!!!
I asked the pharmacist why this simple acne medication prescription was so expensive and if it contained pure platinum or gold within the gelcap. He said the outrageous cost was lawsuits from being sued by trial lawyers, and even males who could not get pregnant and pass on birth defects had to pay the outrageous cost.
Unfortunately Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and the President would NOT allow tort reform in the Affordable Care Act for their trial lawyer mega donors so medications like this would not be so outrageously expensive due to punishing lawsuits where the lawyers collect a disproportionate percent of the settlements.
In the majority of the cases, as William said our Congress does not protect our own as foreign governments bully and blackmail the US drug companies and extort very low prices or they will look the other way and let their drug companies produce a generic version while it is under protection by the US patent.
I just wish there was a happy medium to protect the investment of the drug companies that produce some wonderful and life saving drugs as the average cost from idea to inception to production of a once approved FDA brand name drug is about $300 million dollars. They do have to be rewarded for their risk but not at $900 a prescription.
Bruce - Thank you so much for your reply and in depth explanation. Lawyers are mostly a-holes and will do what ever it takes to maintain their lifestyle. There is always a way to overcome obstacles if you go online and do the research.
I am always a bit curious about the specific medication (popularity, time on market, availability of a generic substitution, etc). I do maintain my pharmacy tech license so I will never have to be a greeter at Walmart!
Hi John! I hadn't seen any new blogs from you recently, so decided to see if you had posted something new. I hope you are ok, and doing well!
The whole pharmaseutical thing is quite a racket, with U.S. folks paying a high price for how it is handled.
